Iran’s Tourism Industry is growing despite economic sanctions

16 April, 2019
According to official statistics from Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization, the number of foreign visitors who have traveled to Iran has risen significantly in 2018 and registered 57% growth compared to the last year’s figures.
Iran has a very optimistic vision to attract more than 20 million tourists per year by 2025 in order to increase Iran market share in World Tourism industry to 1.5% with almost 25 Billion USD revenue for the country. Although the plan seems unrealistic now considering all obstacles for foreign investments and economic instability, Iran’s inherent draw including its unique archaeological and natural beauty and emerging of a young generation of entrepreneurs focused on Tourism who are working progressively to promote Iran’s tourism in the most innovative ways, are promising forces running this sector in Iran.
Iran has an impressive number of 19 registered in UNESCO’s cultural heritage in addition to uniquely diverse natural landscapes. More importantly, at the moment Iran is one of the cheapest destinations for holidays trips as the result of severe local currency devaluation in the last one year. Moreover, now many foreign nationals can travel to Iran and receive their entrance Visa at airports. All of these factors plus effective promotion projects run on social media especially Instagram and Youtube, have depicted Iran as an appealing destination.
